St Joseph’s Spirituality and Education Centre in Kincumber on the NSW Central Coast, nestled in a natural bushland setting and a sacred place visited by Mary MacKillop, is embracing a renewed focus on providing accessible and enriching spiritual experiences through a range of shorter reflection days, workshops, events and retreats.
This shift is designed to meet the diverse needs of individuals seeking moments of peace and contemplation in today’s fast-paced world.
In an article on the Sisters of St Joseph website, Centre Manager Braendle said that in addition to the Centre’s 6-day silent retreats, they recognised the growing demand for more flexible and manageable retreat formats.
“We are now offering a variety of shorter reflection days and workshops crafted to fit seamlessly into busy schedules, allowing participants to experience the profound benefits of spiritual reflection without committing to lengthy retreats. Whether it’s a half-day reflection on mindfulness or a short retreat focusing on specific spiritual practices, these offerings provide meaningful engagement in a condensed format,” she said.
“We are committed to making spiritual growth and community engagement more accessible. By offering a variety of shorter events and workshops, we ensure that people from all walks of life can find a way to connect with their inner selves and with others.”
Anneliese said that one of the exciting upcoming events is the Christmas Market, scheduled for December 14.
“This festive gathering promises to be a wonderful opportunity for the local community and visitors alike to celebrate the holiday season and exemplifies how we blend spiritual reflection with community celebration, creating spaces where people can come together in meaningful ways,” she said. “The market will feature a range of stalls showcasing handcrafted goods, seasonal treats, and unique gifts. It’s not only a chance to find special presents but also an occasion to connect with others in a joyful and supportive environment.”
Anneliese said the Centre is also undergoing significant renovations.
“By 2025, all our rooms will be fully air-conditioned, enhancing comfort and creating a more enjoyable experience for all our guests,” she said. “These improvements are part of our ongoing commitment to providing a welcoming and comfortable environment for spiritual reflection and community gatherings.”
More information about the retreats, activities and accommodation options at the Centre are available on the St Joseph’s Spirituality and Education Centre website.
